What is a micro wedding?

You may have heard the term “micro wedding,” but you are probably pretty unsure of what exactly that means! We have the answer for you!

A micro wedding usually includes the bride and groom and less than 20 guests. Although, I have heard some vendors say 50 or less guests, but I disagree. As a long time wedding and elopement photographer, I have heard weddings be called all sorts of things. But in my experience, the average wedding has around 50-100 or so guests. 30 guests is a small wedding and 15 guests is a micro-wedding.

Why is the difference important?

The difference is important because it drastically changes the price of your wedding! If you tell a venue you are going to have 15 guests and end up with 50 or more, you could be breaking fire codes and end up with a fine. If you tell a photographer you only have 10 guests and end up with 100, you won’t get the services you are hoping.

All of these vendors schedule their time and resources around how many guests there will be. For an average wedding, a photographer will need a lot more time to be able to photograph all the people you might want photographed. For a larger group, you will need more space to accomadate and a larger cake to treat everyone.

Why be honest about your number of guests?

Going back to our original point, you could be putting yourself and your guests in danger if you are not honest. Another reason is if your vendors find out later, there may be unexpected fee’s and fines, and if you skip out on paying these, it could effect your credit, or worse!
